Federal Supply Code 5136, Taps, Dies, and Collets: Hand and Machine, encompasses tools, non-powered and powered, that are used to create threads or to hold a workpiece or other tools. Taps are tools used to cut or form threading for the female portion, e.g. the nut. Dies are tools used to cut or form threading for the male portion, e.g. the bolt. Collets are a type of band or sleeve that, when clamped and tightened on an object, can be used to hold an object. FSC 5136 includes taps; dies; collets; and chasers, both non-powered and powered. Note that FSC 5136 does not include punching, stamping, or marking dies.
